Roblox says more than 80% of its top games are AI-assisted

The company says two games created almost entirely with AI reached the top 20 by concurrent players in the third quarter, and that AI tool use tripled among top creators. Build is available to age-verified users aged nine and older, while published AI-generated games are shown to users 16 and older, which places moderation at the centre of the strategy.

A shareholder letter puts AI assistance behind most of Roblox's top 100 games by hours played and counts 70,000 AI-built games, as the platform bets on generative creation tools.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Roblox's shareholder letter says over 80% of its top 100 games by hours played in September were AI assisted, with more than 70,000 games created using its Build generative tools since Q2.
  • The company says two games created almost entirely with AI reached the top 20 by concurrent players in the third quarter, and that AI tool use tripled among top creators.
  • Build is available to age-verified users aged nine and older, while published AI-generated games are shown to users 16 and older, which places moderation at the centre of the strategy.

What the letter says

Roblox has been selling AI-assisted creation as its next growth engine, and its shareholder letter now includes numbers to back the pitch. As TechPowerUp reported, the company wrote that AI-enabled game creation, automation in code generation and AI supported asset creation are leading to an explosion of content on the platform.

The figure that will travel furthest is the share of the top games: over 80% of Roblox's top 100 games by hours played in September were AI assisted. That is a measurement of the most-watched part of the catalogue, not of the whole library, but it is the part that determines what most players actually see when they open the app.

The volume number

The second number is scale rather than share. TechPowerUp reported that the raw count of games created with Roblox's Build generative AI platform topped 70,000 since the second quarter, and that more than 500,000 users have used Build since its alpha launch in New Zealand, Singapore, Serbia and Thailand.

Volume numbers of this kind are easy to inflate and hard to interpret, which is why the qualifier matters: these are published games, not drafts. A catalogue that grows by tens of thousands of AI-assisted titles in a few months changes the economics of discovery for every creator on the platform, regardless of whether any single new game is good.

The quality question

Roblox's strongest claim is about quality rather than quantity. According to TechPowerUp, the letter says two games created almost entirely with AI broke into the top 20 Roblox ranking by concurrent player count in the third quarter. If accurate, that is evidence the tools can produce something players choose to spend time in, not just something that exists.

It is also a small sample. Two games reaching a top-20 list does not establish that AI-assisted titles compete at the top of the catalogue in general, and Roblox does not disclose how many AI-built games were played at all. The gap between 70,000 published games and two successful ones is the honest shape of the data.

How Build works

Build is a mobile-first creation tool that lets users generate games and assets with AI prompts. TechPowerUp reported that it launched in late July 2026 and is available to age-verified users aged nine and older, while published AI-generated games are available to users 16 and older. That age split is the company's answer to the obvious risk.

The design choice shapes what gets made. A tool that runs on a phone and asks for a prompt lowers the skill floor far below a traditional game engine, which is why the output skews toward small, fast, disposable experiences. For creators who already build seriously, the more useful signal may be the tripling of AI tool use among top developers reported in the same letter.

Moderation is the load-bearing wall

Every AI creation claim on a platform with a young audience runs into the same constraint: what the system refuses to produce. Roblox's own engineering material foregrounds this, describing work on AI-powered creation alongside content moderation at scale and a model that helps safeguard text generation.

The economic logic is straightforward. If AI tools multiply output by an order of magnitude, review capacity has to scale with it, or the platform's safety promises erode faster than its catalogue grows. Roblox has not published review throughput or removal rates alongside the creation numbers, which makes the moderation side the least verifiable part of the story.

Why the rest of the industry is watching

Roblox is running the largest live experiment in AI-native game creation, and its results are being read well beyond gaming. The same question, whether generative tools expand the number of people who can ship something playable, is being asked in music, video and software, where this site has covered AI coding tools and agent platforms.

The platform comparison also matters. Valve has acknowledged the problem of AI-generated clones on Steam without acting on it, as TechPowerUp noted, while Roblox has decided to publish the numbers and make creation a feature. Those are two different bets on the same technology, and the next few quarters will show which one ages better.

What is established, and what is not

Established: Roblox's letter says over 80% of its top 100 games by hours played in September were AI assisted; more than 70,000 games were created with Build since Q2; two largely AI-created games reached the top 20 by concurrent players in Q3; AI tool use tripled among top creators; Build is available to age-verified users nine and older and AI-generated games are shown to users 16 and older. Not established: how many AI-built games were played at all, and what share of revenue they generate.

The unanswered question is durability. A platform can inflate its catalogue quickly and still fail to build a durable creation culture, and the numbers in the letter do not separate the two. For context on how quickly AI-generated content has reshaped an adjacent market, this site's coverage of AI game cloning bans shows the same tension from the toolmaker's side.
